Terms of use
In plain words
- Leanward is an information tool, not a doctor. It does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a medical device.
- Its numbers are estimates. Some food data comes from an open, crowd-sourced database and can be wrong.
- If you have a medical condition, take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a difficult relationship with food, ask your doctor before starting a diet or a fast.
- The app is for adults aged 18 and over, and is currently free.
- These terms do not limit your statutory rights.
1. Who offers the app
Nimród Pöőr, a private individual (developer name: RustySleet)
Budapest, Hungary
E-mail: leanward.app@gmail.com
Called "we" below. We develop the app as a private individual, not as a business, and offer it free of charge. You download it from Apple's App Store; the App Store terms and Apple's standard end-user licence agreement govern the download and the licence. These terms add the points that follow from the app's health subject.
2. Accepting these terms
By downloading and using the app you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app; you can delete it at any time.
The app is only for people aged 18 and over. During setup it does not accept a younger age.
3. What Leanward is for
Leanward helps you keep a record of what you eat and drink, which supplements you take, how your weight and body composition change, and when you fast. A training log will come in a later version. From your diary and your weight trend it estimates your energy expenditure and suggests calorie and macro targets.
The app is currently free, with no purchases and no ads. If a paid feature ever appears, its terms will be made clear before you buy.
4. Not medical advice, not a medical device
- Everything in the app and on this website is general information. It is not medical, dietetic or other professional health advice and does not replace it.
- Leanward is not a medical device. It is not designed or intended to detect, prevent, monitor or treat any disease, and must not be used for that.
- The dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free) only filter and tag. A "gluten-free" or "lactose-free" tag rests on a claim on the label or in the data source; without one, the app shows "unknown". With an allergy or coeliac disease, the product's label always decides.
- The symptom diary only records: it does not score, look for patterns or give advice.
- The knowledge library gives general information with sources. It is not advice tailored to you and does not replace your doctor's or dietitian's view.
- The app does not diagnose. Body fat, BMI, estimated expenditure and the other values are indicative numbers, not findings about your health.
- Never ignore professional advice or delay treatment because of something you saw in the app.
5. When to see a doctor
Talk to a doctor before you change your eating significantly, start fasting or take on much harder training, especially if you:
- are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive;
- have diabetes, or take medication that affects blood sugar (such as insulin or a GLP-1 medicine);
- have heart, kidney, liver, thyroid or digestive disease, low blood pressure or another chronic condition;
- take medication regularly;
- have or have had an eating disorder;
- are starting from a very high or very low body weight.
Stop fasting or dieting and get medical help if you feel dizzy, faint, have palpitations, severe weakness or confusion, or lose weight without explanation. In an emergency, call 112.
6. If your relationship with food is difficult
Counting calories and weighing yourself often is not good for everyone. If you notice that the numbers cause anxiety, guilt or compulsion, that you skip meals to "fit in", or that one "bad" number ruins your day, take a break from the app and talk to someone.
- Your GP can refer you to a specialist, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist or dietitian.
- In Hungary: Lelki Elsősegély Telefonszolgálat, 116-123. Free, 24 hours a day, anonymous. sos116-123.hu
- In immediate danger, call 112.
- Elsewhere, findahelpline.com helps you find a local helpline.
The app has no streaks, badges or motivational messages, so using it does not add pressure. If numbers weigh on you, turn on calm mode in Settings: you then log meals without calories, macros, a weight-loss goal or a weight trend, with support resources one tap away from Today. Calm mode can only be turned off by a deliberate choice in Settings.
7. Estimates and other people's data
- Every number is an estimate. Expenditure, calorie target, trend weight, goal date and body composition are all approximations, and their accuracy depends on what you enter and on your measuring devices.
- The calorie target has a safety floor the app will not go below. That does not mean every target above it suits you.
- Packaged-product data comes from Open Food Facts, an open database built by volunteers and available under the Open Database License (ODbL). It may be wrong or out of date: when it matters, check the product's label.
- When you import a recipe, the app matches the ingredients to foods by estimate; you can check and correct the result before saving.
- Nutrition values for basic foods come from the US Department of Agriculture's USDA FoodData Central (public domain, CC0). We compiled the Hungarian food names and the Hungarian dish recipes, and they are estimates too.
- Exercise names and muscle groups come from the public free-exercise-db (public domain); the Hungarian translation is ours.
- The app lists its sources under Settings › Licences and sources.
8. Your part
- The calculations are only as good as the data you enter.
- Your data lives on your phone and we cannot restore it. Export it from time to time, or switch on your iPhone's iCloud Backup.
- Use imported recipes for your own purposes. The app keeps the source site's name and address and does not copy its method text; the recipe site's terms apply to you too.
- Use the app lawfully and for your own purposes. Do not try to hack, reverse-engineer or disrupt it, and do not overload the Open Food Facts service.
9. Who owns what
The app, its name, logo and texts are our intellectual property. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app; you do not buy it. Your data is yours; we acquire no rights in it. Third-party data is under its own licence (see section 7).
10. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the app working and up to date. Barcode lookup depends on Open Food Facts being available and needs an internet connection; the diary and the calculations work offline. We may develop the app, add features or remove them. If we stop developing it, the app already on your phone keeps working and you can export your data.
11. Liability
- As the law provides, we are liable for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for any breach that harms life, physical integrity or health. Nothing excludes or limits that liability.
- Beyond that, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss caused by relying on the app's estimates, on third-party data (such as Open Food Facts) or on its general information instead of medical advice, or by losing data you had not backed up.
- If mandatory consumer protection rules apply to you, these terms do not limit them, including your rights if the app is defective.
12. Governing law and disputes
Hungarian law governs these terms. If you live in another EU member state and the mandatory rules of your home country give you stronger protection, you keep that protection, and you may bring a claim before the courts where you live.
If you have a complaint, write to us at leanward.app@gmail.com; we reply within 30 days and try to settle it. If that fails, the competent Hungarian court decides, or, as set out above, the court where you live.
13. Apple's role
The app is licensed under Apple's standard end-user licence agreement; these terms add to it, and if the two conflict, Apple's licence agreement prevails. These terms are not Apple's: we are responsible for the app and its content, and Apple has no obligation to support the app.
14. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we update the date at the top of this page and announce material changes in the app in advance. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using the app, exporting your data first.
