General
When is it out, and which phones does it run on?
Coming soon to the App Store. It is made for iPhone, with iOS 26.1 or later. It works in Hungarian and English.
How much does it cost?
It is currently free, with no purchases and no ads.
Do I need an account?
No. No account, no sign-in, no e-mail address.
Does it need the internet?
Only to look up a packaged product by barcode or name for the first time; products you have found are then available offline. The diary, basic foods, Hungarian dishes and all calculations work without a connection.
Is there a training log?
Not yet. The first version covers food, drinks, water, supplements, weight and fasting; a training log comes in a later version.
Is there an Android version, an Apple Watch app or widgets?
Not yet. An Apple Watch app and widgets are planned; an Android version is not in the works right now.
Does it connect to Apple Health?
Not yet. We plan to read steps, active energy and sleep, and to write the food and weight you log back. Before that ships, we will update the privacy policy.
Data and backups
Where is my data?
Only on your phone. We have no server, so we cannot see it, and we cannot restore it either. Details in the privacy policy.
How do I back up my data?
Leanward makes a backup on the phone every day (Files › On My iPhone › Leanward › Backups). These backups stay on the phone and never go to iCloud, so they are lost with the phone. So either:
- turn on iCloud Backup for your iPhone (Settings › [your name] › iCloud › iCloud Backup), or
- export your data from time to time: Leanward › Settings › Backup and restore › Export all data, and save it to iCloud Drive, for example.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
If you set up the new iPhone from an iCloud backup or from the old phone, Leanward's data comes along. Otherwise, export your data on the old phone and use Settings › Backup and restore › Restore from a file on the new one. Before restoring, the app backs up whatever is already there.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings › Delete all data. First the app offers to export your data in case you want to keep it; then it deletes all data and all automatic backups. Deleting the app also removes everything from the phone. Copies inside earlier iCloud backups can be deleted in the iPhone's Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage › Backups.
Is the export file safe?
The export file is not encrypted and contains all your data, including your weight and meals. Save it only where, and send it only to whom, you trust.
Food and numbers
Where do the nutrition values come from?
Basic foods come from the USDA FoodData Central database, with Hungarian names. Packaged products come from the open, crowd-sourced Open Food Facts database. Hungarian dishes and bakery and canteen items are our own estimates. The app lists the sources in Settings › Licences and sources.
Why is a barcode not found?
Most likely the product is not in Open Food Facts yet; that is common for supermarket own brands. Choose Fill in by hand: type the values from the label and the barcode is saved with them, so the next scan finds it. You can also search by name for a similar product.
How accurate is the calorie target?
It is an estimate. It starts from a general formula, then adapts to you more and more from your diary and your weight trend. The more consistently you log and weigh in, the better it gets. A day you did not finish logging does no harm: days where you entered less than half your target are left out of the estimate.
Why is the "trend weight" different from the scale?
The scale can swing by a kilo or two from day to day with water, salt and food. The trend weight smooths that out, so you can see where you are really heading.
Health
Can I use it if I have a medical condition, am pregnant or take medication?
Leanward is not a medical device and gives no medical advice. In those cases, talk to a doctor before starting a diet or a fast. Details in the terms of use.
The numbers make me feel bad. What should I do?
Take a break from the app and talk to someone: your GP, or in Hungary the Lelki Elsősegély helpline on 116-123 (free, day and night). In immediate danger, call 112. More

Found a bug, have a question or an idea? Write to leanward.app@gmail.com. We usually reply within a few days.
For a bug report, it helps a lot to include:
- the app version (Leanward › Settings › About),
- your iPhone model and iOS version,
- what you did, what you expected and what happened instead; a screenshot helps.
Please do not send an export or a backup unless we ask for it: it contains your health data.
